Chrome Steel: There are a lot of cheap chrome pulleys out there from Taiwan and China but if you are serious about building a high performance engine you should only consider billet aluminum. Chrome pulleys start out as a flat hockey puck of steel that is then rolled and pressed multiple times into the correct shape. This process is very cost effective but the end product is a part that isn't very well balanced. Chrome is also prone to slipping belts because the finish is actually too smooth and there is very little grip. Our aluminum pulleys that are CNC machined in the USA from a solid piece of aluminum to ensure nearly perfect balance.

We also avoid polishing the inside of the grooves so that you get great belt traction.
